Don Thorpe


Don Thorpe joined Niagara Children’s Centre’s Board in 2011.  He is a resident of Welland.

Don is retired from his position as General Manager of Planning and Development Services with the City of Welland.  He was employed by the City for over 32 years in various capacities.

Don graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies Degree in Urban Geography.  He also has a Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning from Mohawk College.

Since 2003, Don has been the Treasurer of the Welland Air Cadets Sponsoring Committee, a non-profit, charitable organization.  In this capacity Don is responsible for all financial aspects of the organization.  He is an active member of the Welland Rotary Club and in 2011, Don was elected to the Board of Directors. He is currently the Club’s Secretary.  For the past 21 years, he has been a member of the Advisory Committee for the Urban and Regional Planning – GIS Program at Mohawk College in Hamilton. He is also a founding Board Member of Cordage Green, a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing affordable, sustainable housing in Welland.

During his employment with the City of Welland, Don was involved in many aspects of development and, in particular, promoting the development of low cost housing.
