    Niagara Children’s Centre Mourns Passing of Former Physiotherapy Director Joan Culbert

    Niagara Children’s Centre would like to recognize the passing of one of the Centre’s distinguished employees  and Dr William J. Orr Tribute Award of Distinction recipient, Joan Culbert.   Joan (Centre in white) was the Centre’s first physiotherapist, who went on to become the Director of Physiotherapy. Joan played a significant role in the design of the Centre through our original building construction and subsequent developments, including the development of programs such as orthopaedic clinic and gait; orthopaedic services; seating and mobility as well as our pool, aquatics and recreation programs.       Niagara Children's Centre is pleased to announce that longstanding Centre supporter Ken Janzen, was elected as Chair of Niagara Children's Centre Board of Directors, at the Annual General Meeting that took place on June 21 at Club Roma.     How Family-Centered Are We? The Results are In!

    During February and March, the Centre surveyed families to help us understand how family-centered we are in providing our services.  The results are in and families gave us very positive feedback! The survey tool we used was the MPOC (Measure of Processes of Care).     It’s Full Steam Ahead for this Year’s Summer Literacy Program!

    Speech Services Niagara’s Summer Literacy Program is well underway with 25 kindergarten-aged students participating in a researched-based, fun-filled summer program aimed at helping develop pre-reading skills! Over the course of three weeks, students are be working on rhyming, letter recognition, syllables, phonological awareness and much more through games and activities.     Rotary Club of St. Catharines Receives the Dr. William J. Orr Tribute Award of Distinction

    Dr. Orr has a special place in Niagara Children’s Centre’s history. A retired local physician and the longest serving member of Rotary Club of St. Catharines, Dr. Orr was instrumental in establishing Niagara Children’s Centre. He unselfishly gave of himself, volunteering at clinics before the Centre was established, while relentlessly pursuing his dream of a Children’s Treatment Centre for Niagara, which was fulfilled in 1964.  Dr. Orr became the founding Chairman and the Centre’s first Medical Director.
