Who We Are
Social Workers (SWs) are health care professionals who are trained to support children and families to cope with the impact of illness, disability and complex health needs. At Niagara Children’s Centre, social workers have specialized university education and must participate in continued professional learning and skills development. The role of the Social Workers at Niagara Children’s Centre is to provide information and support regarding services relevant to the child and family.
Social Workers can help with:
- Parent/caregiver support regarding child’s condition and development
- Education and support groups for children, siblings, parents, grandparents and other caregivers
- Information and coordination of referrals to community services
- Support for various transitions in a child’s life
- Case coordination and advocacy
- Financial assistance and benefits
Social Work is a regulated health care profession in Ontario.
At Niagara Children’s Centre Social Workers are available as needed, on a consult basis for children and families involved with other services:
- Infant and preschool services
- School aged services, including the Niagara Children’s Centre School
