2nd Annual Superhero Run Builds Momentum for Niagara Children’s Centre

Oct. 19, 2016

Niagara’s Superheroes were out in full force on Sunday, running and walking in support of Niagara Children’s Centre!  The 1K and 5K walk/run events, geared to both kids and those 'young at heart', raised funds to support Niagara Children’s Centre’s ongoing programming which supports over 3,200 children in Niagara every year.

“The Superhero Run is fast becoming a highlight of the year for our families and donors. The event raises funds and profile for our Centre, while promoting fun and family engagement.  One of the highlights was the family-friendly interactive stations along the 1K route to ensure participants of all ages and abilities had the chance to fully be part of the festivities,” says Oksana Fisher, CEO.

Some REAL superheroes also came to show their support including Paralympic swimmer Margaret Sanderson, World Special Olympics gold-medal golfer Tessa Trojan, and a team from presenting sponsors The Viola-Salter Group.  Additional sponsors of the event included: 610 CKTB, 105.7EZ Rock, 97.7 HTZ-FM, Brock University, Niagara Prosthetics and Orthotics and Niagara Wheelchairs & Seating, Loud+Clear, Minuteman Press, Midas Ontario Street, Niagara Academy of Sport and Credit Services Bureau.

“Over the last ten years, staff at Niagara Children's Centre have given us super-sized support as we care for our kids.  Being a part of the Superhero Run is a chance to share our stories within the Centre's story, as we dream about an inclusive and sustainable future together with our community,” said Sara Pot, at the event. She is a mother of four daughters, two of which receive therapy and support at the Centre.

The goal of the event was to raise $30,000 and the total raised came to $31,021, with approximately 250 participants!  So, whether it was digging for kryptonite, bouncing in the Superhero inflatable or giving Superhero Hi-Fives to the Amazing Spiderman – there was something for everyone to feel connected to the Centre’s mission of helping children shine.  After all, as the event slogan stated: Every Child Needs a Superhero!
