Parent Talk - 2.0

We want to connect! We want to see you! We want you to feel supported!

Join us on the third Tuesday of the month - 8:00pm to 9:30pm - to connect with other parents/primary caregivers, with similar life experiences. In a conversational format, we will be discussing topics of mutual interest, sharing successes and challenges, and seeking/providing support.

Note: sessions are virtual until further notice, with the exception of an in-person option for April.

Virtual Group Topics:

  • January 18, 2022 - "Making Friends" While there may be challenges to overcome, friendships are essential to our children’s wellbeing and to ours as parents. Come have a discussion regarding the benefits, challenges, and strategies to assist our children in building connections, community, and friendships.
  • February 15, 2022 – “Finding Balance” Parenting a child with special needs may bring additional stressors and demands. Join us as we discuss strategies to maintain some form of balance in the lives of our children, our family, and ourselves.
  • March 15, 2022 - “Finding Your Voice”  One of the basic assumptions of family-centered care is that parents know their child best. As children transition through life, professionals will come and go, but you will remain you child’s constant. We will be leading a discussion about what advocacy means to you and strategies to make us more confident, positive, and successful in the role of advocate.
  • April 19, 2022 – “In Centre Social” This month’s Parent Talk will be in-person at the Centre. Come out and meet other Centre families and have some in-person fun.  Activity to be determined. Email jo-anne.smith@niagarachildrenscentre.com to register.
