    From advocate to Director: A therapist’s journey at Niagara Children’s Centre

      Dorothy Harvey has been advocating for members of the local community with physical, developmental and communicative delays for more than 30 years.   On March 31, Harvey will retire from her role as Director of Clinical Services for Niagara Children’s Centre after overseeing more than 20,000 children and youth under her leadership.   Her path to Director began with the birth of her daughter Kate in 1986. Born with significant physical and developmental challenges, Harvey started to learn more about the support and services available to her family and became more involved in parent and community advocacy groups.   …

        While Jillian and Tom Janzen knew their son would bring great joy to their life, they also knew he would face significant challenges.   Their son Patrick, who they call Paddy, was born with Down syndrome, a condition in which a baby is born with an extra 21st chromosome that can cause delays in their mental and physical development.   They knew before Patrick was born that he had the diagnosis, so their family spent time learning about the available services and community support in the Niagara region.   “Feeling alone was probably one of the biggest challenges…

    Ready for some spooky fun? Dress up in your Halloween costumes and come to our first-ever Trunk or Treat event! This inclusive event is unique and a barrier-free way for all children to enjoy trick or treating!
