Home and Vehicle Program

Who We Are

The Home and Vehicle Program assists families with home and vehicle accessibility through ongoing consultation with an Occupational Therapist and a Social Worker.  The team will work with the family from the beginning stages of the project until completion by:

•Providing information and resources to assist with the project
• Determining  if there are appropriate funding options
• Assisting with funding applications if required


Clients may be eligible for services if they are:
Under the age of 18
Reside in the Niagara area
Have difficulty accessing areas of the home and require modifications to the physical structure (not equipment such as shower chair)
Have difficulty getting in or out of a vehicle and need to be transported in a wheelchair
Potential projects include:
• Ramps
• Elevators
• Platform lifts
• Wheel-in (Curbless) showers
Other related handouts:
A number of organizations are available to help families with covering costs for home and vehicle modifications. Each organization has specific guidelines and policies that should be reviewed prior to applying for funding.    

Some potential funders include: 

1. Ontario March of Dimes Home and Vehicle Modification Program

Provide funding for basic home and/or vehicle modifications. The program is intended to assist permanent Ontario residents with a substantial impairment expected to last one year or more. Clients who meet program criteria can apply for grant funding.

  • Up to $15,000 lifetime max for home modifications
  • Up to $15,000 every 10 years for vehicle modifications
2. Presidents Choice Children’s Charity
  • Funding up to $20, 000( must meet eligibility criteria).
  • Funding is available once only for children 18 and under.
  • Family’s combined gross household income must be $70, 000 or less
  • Family can receive up to $3,000 per year(must meet eligibility criteria)
  • Funding is to be applied to the cost of the conversion/ramp
  • Muscular Dystrophy Canada Mobility Equipment Program
  • Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsy Assistive Devices Funding Program(does not cover van modifications)
  • Local Service Clubs (Contact 211 for list of service clubs in your community)
  • Church groups
  • Private Fundraising
