Just over three years ago, Noah was born and immediately diagnosed with Myelomeningocele Spinal Bifida – a shock to his family. They were told he would be paralyzed from the waist down and suffer brain damage. Just like that, their whole world had changed and a wonderful, celebratory day quickly became terrifying.

After a stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at McMaster, Noah was referred directly to Niagara Children’s Centre for Physical and Occupational Therapy. By just one month old, Noah was receiving Physiotherapy. His therapist has been a constant support both physically for Noah, and emotionally for his parents. With her help, Noah is walking and she encourages him to be a fighter.

Noah's Occupational Therapist, began visiting the family at home not long after, and she too has became a welcoming source of knowledge for his parents. His current OT, is helping Noah defy the odds for people with Spinal Bifida by working on toilet training. With the help of his Speech Language Pathologist, Noah’s speech improves each day.

Noah's mom, Angela, shares, "Noah is a true fighter, and every time we have been told he wouldn’t do something, he surprises us. That being said, we know it is the Centre’s support that has gotten Noah to where he is today. Being a parent of a child with special needs is nothing short of challenging, and can be extremely lonely. We’re so lucky though. Ever since our first visit, the Centre has felt like home.

We are so lucky to have the Centre right here in Niagara, allowing us to maintain work and other regular responsibilities while getting Noah the treatment he needs. We couldn’t imagine where we would be without the Centre and anyone who knows us sees that.

We ask everyone we know to support the Centre. The Centre provides direct support to not only the children, but the families who struggle with daily challenges. The team at the Centre has been behind us, reminding us every step of the way that ‘We’ve got this!’ and that support means the world to us."
