OCASSIONAL EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT (EA)
The Niagara Children’s Centre School Authority invites applications for the position of classroom support as an Occasional Educational Assistant (EA). The Niagara Children`s Centre School Authority is one of the Section 68 School Authorities in the province of Ontario. As a Centre of excellence, the Niagara Children’s Centre School provides individualized education and therapeutic programming in small group settings to children and youth 4-21 years of age with multi-learning and physical exceptionalities.
Job Description:
Under the direction of the teacher, an EA will provide education support and therapy to children 4-21 years of age who have physical and/or communication disabilities.
Interested applicants must have:
- Demonstrated experience working with students with special education needs of varying ages
- Ability to work with classroom teachers in order to establish a positive classroom environment
- Ability to support students in the areas of mobility, communication, life skills, and personal care
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and therapists to support therapy in a classroom environment
- Proven ability to deal with classroom management and emergency situations and to take appropriate actions based on established Board policies and procedures;
- Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with children, parents, staff and others;
- Proven ability to follow policies and procedures in an appropriate and timely manner;
- Understanding and commitment to confidentiality
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a College of Applied Arts & Technology in Educational Assistant - Special Needs Support (preferred), or experience working as an EA.
- Experience in an Educational Assistant role in the classroom is considered an asset.
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program;
- Must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting)
- Standard First Aid/CPR and Behavior Management System (BMS) certifications are preferred.
- Provision of a satisfactory Police Clearance including a Vulnerable Sector Police Check from the last 6 months (or ability to obtain one) is a condition of employment.
Compensation:
- Full days are between 8:30 and 4:00pm at $26.95/hour
Start Date:
Hiring for occasional/supply work from September 3, 2024-June 27, 2025. You may supply for multiple boards at the same time (DSBN, NCDSB, etc.).
