Overview

Niagara Children’s Centre is a child development and rehabilitation (treatment) centre serving children and youth with physical, developmental and/or communicative delays or disabilities.

The Centre serves 12 municipalities of the Region of Niagara and core services include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology.

Secondary services include: social work; medical clinics (neurodevelopmental paediatrics, physical medicine and complex care); specialty clinics (alternative and augmentative communication, seating and mobility); gait lab; resource consultants; recreation therapy; aquatics; and behavioural consultation.

Programs and services are delivered at locations operated by the Centre as well as at satellites, schools, child care centres and other community locations.

Centre Information

  • Employ approximately 120 full- and part-time staff
  • One of 21 children’s treatment centres in Ontario
  • Member of Empowered Kids Ontario (EKO), the provincial association for children’s rehabilitation and child development centres – one voice to government
  • Annual budget of approximately $11 million (see Our Funding section below for information on funding sources)

Niagara Children’s Centre School Authority

  • Established in 1964, along with Centre
  • Co-located at 567 Glenridge Ave
  • Separately governed by school trustees, principal and administrator
  • Approximately 60 students
  • Funded by the Ministry of Education: Section 68 School
  • Focus is on transition to the child’s community school
