Apraxia Awareness Day
Apraxia Awareness Day raises awareness for the speech sound disorder that makes saying the right sounds and words quite difficult. The goal is to raise awareness of apraxia of speech and educate people on what it is, and how you can help people living with the disorder.
Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a very misunderstood and very challenging speech disorder that affects nearly 1-in-1,000 children. Without intensive and appropriate speech therapy, children with CAS will not learn to speak. Children with the diagnosis of apraxia of speech generally have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say. However, they have difficulty learning or carrying out the complex movements that underlie speech.
Apraxia Kids works to support families in a variety of ways to help them navigate their journey. Their mission is to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia of speech.
