The
Day Cleaner is primarily responsible to ensure that the Centre’s clinical
treatment areas, public reception and public areas are kept clean and
disinfected; maintain placement of
clinical treatment area furnishings; and
to provide other cleaning assistance as required. The Day Cleaner will promote infection
prevention through everyday work. This is a casual position to cover the duties
of the Day Cleaner when they are on vacation and/or sick, approximately 30 - 40
days per year.
Specific Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the position include:
Perform cleaning duties as outlined in the work
schedule including but not limited to the following:
- Cleaning and disinfecting, mats, equipment,
toys, ball pits, Snoezelen and all other equipment used by therapists
- Cleaning and disinfecting treatment areas, treatment surfaces,
client reception areas, windows and doors
- Organization of furnishings and equipment in treatment areas and
storage areas
- Regular laundry of sheets, pillow cases, towels and other items
used in clinical treatment areas
- Maintaining clean and dry entrances and hallways
- Tending to spills/ incidents and spot cleaning
- Inspecting washrooms, spot cleaning and replenishing supplies
- General organization and cleaning of kitchen, dishwasher and
fridge
- Inspecting toys for safety; tag or remove from operation as
required
- Equipment cleaning/ Assistive Devices Cleaning where applicable
- Environment Cleaning- walls; chairs; windows; doors; etc.
- Maintain cleaning supplies
- Provide other assistance as requested by Director
Health and Safety:
The Day Cleaner
will comply with duties assigned to Workers, as per Section 28 of the Ontario
Health and Safety Act.
Accountability and
Freedom to Act:
The incumbent has
latitude for discretion within practices and procedures covered by precedents,
Centre policy and procedure manuals and supervisory review.
Key Relationships:
The Day Cleaner is
concerned with the effectiveness of all relationships that affect the Centre.

Performance Factors:
In
assessing the performance of an incumbent in this position, the following
factors will be utilized, as appropriate:
- The
cleanliness of all areas and equipment in designated areas of responsibility
- The degree
to which treatment areas are prepared in advance of need
- Adherence
to standardized cleaning procedures and Health & Safety policies and procedures
- The degree
of understanding of infection control standards.
- The
promptness and courtesy with which requests for assistance are met
- Ability to
manage time to ensure completeness of tasks
Education:
The minimum
specifications for an incumbent will include:
Successful
completion of the Environmental Services for Front Line Staff through the
Ontario Healthcare Housekeeping Association, within the first year of
employment.
Knowledge/Skills:
An incumbent will be expected to have the
following knowledge and skills:
- Able to carry out uninvolved, standard
procedures and use equipment that is easy to operate
- A knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous
Materials Information System
- Cleaning background in a healthcare
environment
- Able to deal with children with special needs
in a caring and gentle manner
- A knowledge of cleaning and infection
prevention standards
- Effective communicator
- Strong commitment to customer service
- Familiarity with personal protective equipment
- Strong attention to detail and understanding
of importance of clean areas for clients and employees
- Access to reliable transportation
- A current criminal reference check, for the vulnerable sector
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Bilingual (French) would be considered an asset
