The Importance of the Vestibular System

Added on: November 26, 2024
Search

The vestibular system gives us information about how our body is moving especially in relation to where our head is positioned. It helps to keep our posture aligned and maintain balance when standing or moving. Some children are very sensitive to this sensation and may appear fearful of heights and be cautious in their movements. This may also show up as dizziness and dislike of riding in vehicles or avoiding climbing equipment at the playground etc. Other children may crave lots of movement. This may be seen as difficulty sitting still and overall always looking to climb, jump or move quickly.
